Sunderlands & Thompsons Declare 1st Working Sheepdog Sale Great Success
31st October 2009
SALE OF WORKING SHEEPDOGS AT HAY ON WYE
50 WORKING DOGS
A very pleasing entry of dogs forward for Sunderlands & Thompsons first sale of working sheepdogs at Hay on Wye. There was a huge crowd in attendance with vendors and purchasers from all corners of the country, Cornwall, Essex, North Wales and Yorkshire. The was a variety of dogs forwards from those exceptionally trained and registered dogs to those that required more schooling. It would be fair to say that there was something for everyone. It was very pleasing to see the majority of dogs forwards fully listed in the catalogue and we can’t stress enough the importance of entering dogs for the catalogue as it allows purchasers to make a more informed decision about what dog they would like to purchase.
The dogs averaged a very pleasing 650 guinees which were sold to a 60% clearance. The auctioneer Matthew Nicholls was highly delighted to see Lot 38 a fully registered 18 month old bitch by the name of Cammen Fly that made a tremendous 2050 guineas (£2152.50). She was a black, white and tan prick eared bitch that was shown well by the owner Mr David Streeter of Ty Dewi and was finally purchased after a fierce round of bidding by Mr D. Thomas of The stud, Bridgend.
Another highlight of the day was seeing a tremendously keen and only 6 month old unregistered bitch (Lot 32), forward by Mr R.T. Evans of Elliots Town, by the name of Daisy who put on quite a performance selling to 760 guineas.
There were further strong dogs forward by Mr Powell Meadow Vale, Gladestry and Mr T. Lloyd Upper Lundy, Painscastle with entries making 1000 guineas and 1080 guineas respectively. Mr Powell who had Lot 29, a registered black & white 18 month old dog by the name of Penydre Ben and Mr Lloyd who had a registered bitch by the name of Mag.
Next year we intend to hold the Spring/Summer sale on Saturday 5th June 2010 and there will be a further change to the venue. We intend to hold the sale in a different field, the field nearest the Hollybush Pub. It is our intention to park the cars nearest to the Pub and work the field from that end so that it allows vendors the opportunity to really show the potential and quality of those fully trained and classy dogs. Likewise it will also allow purchasers to make a more informed decision.
Finally Sunderlands & Thompsons and particularly the auctioneer would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the sale and made it the success that it was. We hope we can rely on your support next year. If you have any queries regarding the sale please do not hesitate to contact us.
